How the calculation works
The guideline divides the chosen constant by physical focal length and sensor crop factor.
seconds = rule constant ÷ (focal length × crop factor)
This rule of thumb excludes declination, pixel pitch, tracking accuracy, atmospheric seeing, display size, and your tolerance for star elongation.
